Walking Tour of Old Aberdeen

Old Aberdeen is a village founded in the 6th century. It is home to Aberdeen’s first cathedral, St Machar, founded in 1520. It is also home to Scotland’s third oldest university founded in 1495. On the walk between the two we learn the stories of some of the remarkable residents who have lived there.

Scotfree Tours www.scotfreetours.com will lead this tour.

Visit Stonehaven for its stunning coastal landscapes, historic attractions, and vibrant local culture.

This is a self-guided tour.  Stonehaven, a charming coastal town on Scotland’s northeast coast, is famous for its dramatic cliffside setting with its historic harbour. Just 15 miles south of Aberdeen, Stonehaven has become a popular destination for those looking to experience the beauty and heritage of the Aberdeenshire coastline.  Those joining this tour will travel to Stonehaven by bus, first visiting Dunnottar Castle high on the cliffs above the town.  You will then have time to explore the town at your own pace before returning to Aberdeen.

This self-guided tour will provide transport (by bus) to and the entry fee for Crathes Castle

Standing proudly against a backdrop of rolling hills and set within its own glorious gardens, Crathes Castle is every inch the classic Scottish tower house.

Inside the castle, you’ll discover a rich labyrinth of cultural history, featuring fine antique furniture, family portraits, and ornately painted ceilings. Outside, the walled garden is a masterpiece, divided into eight themed areas that offer everything from traditional sculpted topiary and soft herbaceous borders to vibrant exotic blooms.

Nature enthusiasts will enjoy the waymarked trails along the Coy Burn — a haven for spotting wildlife such as buzzards, herons, and kingfishers.  After exploring the castle and grounds, drop by the Courtyard Shop and Café for a light lunch, homemade cakes, and delicious treats.

Why not join us to find out more and taste a range of Scotland's iconic tipple? Our knowledgeable staff will guide you through a selection of some of the world’s finest whiskies, and provide insight into the unique flavours, aromas and history behind them. The event will take place University of Aberdeen's Old Aberdeen Campus.
