Masterclasses | Monday 24th June - 2pm - 5pm
Application deadline 25th of May
The masterclass will provide a small group of participants (around 5, mostly early career researchers) with an extensive opportunity to discuss their research with one or more established researchers (“masters”) in the field. In the masterclass, participants would give a short (10-15min) presentation to introduce their research, followed by a generous discussion period with the masters and the wider group. The format gives participants a unique opportunity to receive feedback and input on their research from established researchers in their field, all in a friendly and informal small-group setting.
A few masterclasses will held in the afternoon before the conference (Monday 24th June 2024), with each masterclass focussed around a research topic and led by two researchers. The following masterclasses have been confirmed:
Masterclass on vegetated flows and nature-based solutions
Conveners: Dr Ellis Penning (Deltares, The Netherlands), Prof Stephen Monismith (Stanford University, USA)
We invite applications for a master class on the role of ecohydraulic knowledge in implementing nature-based solutions with a focus on vegetated flows and dynamics in such systems. Does your project involve vegetated flows in a fluvial or marine environment, and would you like to discuss your project and the topic more generally? If so, then we invite you to join our masterclass.
Masterclass on buoyancy-driven and stratified shear flows
Conveners: Prof Joseph Fernando (Notre Dame University, USA), Prof Peter Davies (University of Dundee, Scotland).
Applications are invited for a master class on the broad topic of buoyancy-driven and stratified shear flows, including density currents, estuarine processes, jets and plumes, and turbulent mixing processes in stratified flows. Whether your project is analytical, numerical, laboratory- or field-based we encourage you to apply!
How to apply?
The masterclasses are open to early career researchers (MSc/PhD students, post-docs) and early career professionals who are registered for the conference. Apply using this form and provide a short description of your research project or motivation for why you want to attend the masterclass. Please note, places are limited and applicants will be contacted via email if they have successfully received a place in the Masterclass. Application deadline 25th of May
