North East Communities for a Just Transition:

Exploring What a Just Transition means for our communities

North East Scotland Climate Action Network – Just Transition Communities Project
warmly invites you to attend the
‘North East Communities for a Just Transition’ event on
31st May 2023, at King’s College Aberdeen.

The project addresses the question of how communities can be involved in and help to drive the process of designing, creating and delivering a Just Transition. At this event - we will share our progress and learnings, with the aim of building on the deliberative democratic processes at the heart of this communities project by bringing together a mixture of stakeholders from communities and decision-making bodies to explore the processes and findings so far and discuss future actions and proposals. Session will explore:

  • Practicalities of running community assemblies
  • The value of deliberative democratic processes on climate change
  • How do we embed real change and what does this look like
  • Interactive tools to build confidence and community engagement
  • Developing climate action plans with children and young people

There will be opportunities for discussion, lunch and networking, and exploring and finding out about community engagement work and research that has been going on across the North East of Scotland as part of this Just Transition partnership project

Overall purpose:

  • Sharing information about the project activities and outcomes to a wide stakeholder group including policy, local representatives and community organisations.
  • Whetting appetite for what it could contribute to a JT in the NE and beyond.
  • Sharing and discussing some preliminary learning and establishing the value of the work being undertaken and the next steps.
